Dress by Body Type: Ruffles to Suit Your Body and Budget

You'll Look and Feel Great

The spring trend of ruffles ruffles in fashion lives on from previous seasons' trends, showing that ruffles, if worn well, never really go out of style. You can wear them with any body type, any budget.

Peplums, flared ruffles attached to the waists of skirts for instance, are very hot on runways this season. You might have a peplum top that can be worn with skinny leg jeans. Because even the most stylish, thin and flouncy pepulm can add width, pairing the piece with another piece that is more straight lined and closer fitting will be flattering and allow you to be seen. You won't be swallowed up by your outfit.

Designers are working with ruffles in all sorts of materials, in fashion and accessories, even interior design but they are all around us.

They remind you of the petals on the flowers in you garden. You're seeing the airy, sweet whipped cream that was in your coffee this morning. They may remind you of the rushing waves at the beach, luxurious hair styles. The wax as it drips down a burning candle has a similar look.

You see them in delicious gourmet food that's been artistically displayed on a plate, carnivore, omnivore or vegetarian! Ruffles are all around us in nature and in art. We've always wanted to adorn ourselves with them. And they aren't just for royalty, they're not just for the rich and famous.

Often highly feminine, ruffles can add movement to an outfit. They remind us of so much, we may not even consciously realize how drawn we are to them.

Ruffles may be applied lavishly or subtly on a garment or an accessory. They may be intricate and precise or lush and flowing, perhaps sparse. It depends on your preference, what else you're wearing and on your personal style.

Fun and flirty, the blouse or blazer is perhaps the most popular piece of clothing to carry ruffles, drawing attention to the top and to your face. Anyone who ever watched the famous British comedy Are You Being Served? knows, ruffles or frills, are suitable for business as much as they are for casual attire. It all depends on how you wear them.

Ruffles may look urban or highly feminine, home-spun or high-fashion. The variety available today affords us a brilliant array of bags, clutches and totes so we may often have an assortment in our collection. What you'd bring to a wedding would probably not be the same as what you'd require for a business meeting. A trip to a business convention or vacation trip, a night on the town, going to a show, to your in-laws' house for dinner, on a date, these all may call for something different.

Mixing it up, with accessories such as scarves, jewelry, shoes and hose may bring out just what you're trying to express. Check fashion and style magazines that you respect to get ideas for what may suit you.

Consider your body type. Remember that ruffles add volume. Choose the style, fabric and design of the garment wisely.

If you are larger on top, you may want to choose to wear fewer ruffles on a top. Have a row along the neckline or maybe a column down the center. You might even rather have the ruffles on your skirt or accessories. Just as you might avoid bold colors or pattern such as wide stripes, if you want to accentuate features, adding an attractive embellishment may call attention to your assets.

Contrast and balance are always beneficial in planning your look. Having an all-over ruffle outfit is probably not the best idea. Instead of wearing your cutest new metallic ruffle top with the muted ruffled skirt, why not wear the top on one day then the skirt on a different day, wearing them with more sleek, smooth hugging lines in complementary pieces. This will help each ruffled outfit to shine as you and its designer intended.

You can combine trends for the maximum impact. Metallics and jewel tones are very hot right now. Add a ruffle to either of these and you can't go wrong in the look or the investment.

A handbag or tote with expressive, exuberant ruffles such as a lovely Steve Madden or a Big Buddha Mia Bag may compete for attention with a ruffly blouse. Consider letting that bag get the attention it deserves by wearing a blouse with fewer embellishments.

Quality As with any other purchase, choose a garment or bag of the best quality in your price range. Shopping around and comparing products, saving money to buy the real deal, these tactics will serve you well in the end. Buying an authentic designer bag, for instance, is advised for getting the best possible product for your money as well as for moral, legal and sometimes even health reasons. How long will the item last? How well was it made and how was it made? How easy would it be to maintain?

Vegan Leather You don't have to sacrifice your principles to get that designer ruffle bag you've been seeing the celebrities carrying in the magazines.

Designers such as Steve Madden are using high quality vegan leather in their designs. Whether you're looking for a handbag, clutch, satchel or tote, you can feel good about your purchase and have a quality bag as well. Check to see what's available in this eco-friendly material.

Designer ruffled bags, like clothes, are available in many materials. The leather and synthetic leather are only one of the versions out there. A ruffled bag can be just as appropriate for any age as can a piece of clothing with a ruffle detail.

For the fun, flirty, ultra-feminine times, there are some very pretty fabric bags. Consider a multi-tiered ruffled bag for an outing, a trip to the grocery store, the beach, even dashing about as you plan your wedding.

There are some lovely pieces that can serve as gorgeous laundry bags, some charming in white, just perfect for brides and other very special occasions. Bring them along on a honeymoon or other trip. Use it daily to add charm to your bedroom or guest room.

A smart street handbag

Street smart - the handbag size, material and colours

The Street Smart handbag is approximately 14X14 inch in size, a handbag in the larger mid range size. The material is strong slightly shiny nylon, woven in a canvas style. My favorite colour was the light warm sandy grey named "dew me". The photos I have taken for this review are made with the hipstamatic app for the Iphone which changes colours a bit. However depending on the light conditions the bag will look diffferently-

Take a look here to see all colors available for this handbag.

On the front of the Street smart bag there is a pocket that can be closed with a zip.

Clever design - enough pockets in the right size at the right place

It was fun to select the bag in the shop. The designers of these bags really care about the needs of their buyers. Enough pockets in the right size at the right place...is what we want.

The Street smart has in total six extra pockets. One big zipper closed pocket is placed on the front. Two smaller zipper closed pockets are hidden on the sides. Inside tha bag there is one zipper closed bigger one and two open pockets.

Two bags on each side can be clsed securely with a zip.

Flawless crafting and durable material made in China

Yes, the handbag is made in China. It impresses with flawless sewing and application of details, which you can examine in the detail photo shots below. The zippers are strong, nothing that will break easily. All seams are done very carefully, buttons and other applications are fixed professionally. The bag has two risers, a short one and a long one, which are 1.5 inch wide for comfortable wear.

Where to Buy Designer Handbags for Less

What are the Latest Designer Handbag Trends this Season?

When you look to Milan and Paris runways, this season's designer handbags are all about textures, deep wine colors and classic styles.

Time to get your Grandma's needle and thread out because embroidered handbags are going to be really BIG this season! Top designer such as Versace and Jason Wu have been designing some stunning quilted and embroidered creations that are sending the fashion world buzzing.

Burgundy / Wine colored bags were all the rage on the runways this season and will be a popular choice for the cooler months this year. Some are even saying that burgundy bags are the new 'black' when it comes to designer handbag fashion as this color goes with just about everything!

Classic styles are back in fashion so now's the time to go shopping! These classic styles are timeless. While other fads come and go it is the classic style that we keep coming back to. So consider your purchase an investment for the future because classic will be around for many years to come!

The Future of Handbags

My Take on the Subject...

When it comes to handbags, I have to tell you that it is one of my favorite things to talk about! I own about 10 very nice ones that I keep in special protective bags so they don't get dirty or dusty. Yes, I'm very protective of them. But, that is probably because I paid a lot for each of them! It's an investment to me and I want to make sure I get my money's worth from each and every one of them.

As for the future of handbags, more and more I'm seeing the hobo bag. Now, if you are a hobo bag fan, you have got to be loving what you are seeing out there. However, for me, I'm not too excited about it. I've always found hobo bags cumbersome and bulky. I much prefer a clutch type bag that can easily be carried -vs- a big, bulky bag that I have to swing over my shoulder.

I also see bags getting bigger believe it or not. It seems that bigger is better according to the bag designers these days. Ugh. Whatever happened to the dainty, elegant purses from 5 years ago? These were more my style.

The good news? What comes around goes around. Save your purses! Take good care of them! Odds are they will come back into style sooner than later.

'It' bags are the classic cars of the fashion set

Handbags are the new shoes, the must have "it" accessory that has all the fashion-istas clamouring for the latest offering from popular designers. It's also a market that has more in common with the male-dominated world of classic cars than you'd realise.

Few of you will have missed the fuss a couple of months ago when Sainsbury's sold 20,000 "I'm not a plastic bag" Anya Hind-march totes for [pound]5 each. Within hours those same unbleached cotton bags were selling for in excess of [pound]150 on eBay. "Every girl has a handbag," says Christie's specialist Monica Turcich, "and every girl wants one. Women now want the 'it' bag and the one nobody else is carrying. They've always been popular and they are the section of our 20th-century fashion sales for which we get the most phone calls, but now they are doing particularly well because everyone wants handbags, whereas 10 years ago there weren't the 'it' bags like we have today, simply the classics."

Like cars, most of the more recent designer handbags which sell through dealers and auction houses make significantly less than their original retail price, losing value the second the initial purchase has taken place. That is good news for both collector investors and handbag enthusiasts, but there are some exceptions to the rule.

Last March Christie's sold a red Hermes crocodile skin Kelly bag for [pound]10,800, this had only been purchased in 1994 and was originally a bespoke product. The Kelly bag is the "holy grail" of the classic handbag world according to Turcich. "Chloe and other more contemporary bags are more driven by what's popular now, but for Hermes and Chanel's quilted bag, these are classics which never go out of style and are always useable." Kelly bags can be bought for [pound]600 and can often be sold on for [pound]1,000- [pound]2,000, which isn't bad for a bag which might have been bought back in the 1960s.

There's no doubt that most handbags are being bought to be used, it's not an investment market in the same way as many other collectables such as paul smith,Abercrombie and Fitch, dsquared etc, but again there are parallels to the car market. By buying a classic bag and looking after it, you are unlikely to lose money, rather see a steady gain with the added return of enjoying using it.

Hindmarch's "I'm not a plastic bag" bags are unlikely to make it to "classic" status, they are after all mass-produced cotton totes, but other handbags from her range might well do so. So far Christie's has-n't sold any Hindmarch bags, but Turcich says she wouldn't be surprised if they start turning up at auction soon and she wouldn't turn them away. "Kylie Minogue was pictured carrying a Chloe bracelet bag around a few years ago which sparked a fashion and now we are selling the same thing at auction."

There is a pristine one in the next auction which is estimated at [pound]800 to [pound]1,000 along with another Chloe handbag in the same lot. "I think Chloe has started the 'it' bag scene" adds Turcich, "I don't know how long it will take for them to become classics of their own, but I'm sure these will hold their value in five or 10 years' time. People just don't seem to have paid attention to the fact that handbags have become the new shoes in the last few years, there is now an appreciation of the design that goes into them. There are shoe designers that are artists and so too with handbags."

It's not always about big names, a few weeks ago Ms Minogue was at the shop of Tony Durante, a handbag dealer at Alfie's in London, and purchased a white raffia bag with a horse's head on the front for around [pound]200. Brightly coloured raffia bags are in at the moment because it's summer. Durante says that Kylie loved this particular bag because it was unusual. Buying it from a vintage fashion dealer she's unlikely to bump into another celebrity carrying one. Durante says that his customers are looking for this "unusualness" factor.

If you do want to retain the value in your handbag then you should go for one that is in excellent condition, is a good design and beautiful. Some "it" bags will undoubtedly go down in value as fashions change, but the classics should stay steady.

7 Attributes of a Successful Fashion Model

Have you ever looked at a successful model and said, "I am just as beautiful as this girl so I think I'll become a supermodel."

I would like to clarify one thing and please listen carefully ...

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A NATURAL-BORN MODEL!!!

Yes, some people have a natural beauty and some learn more quickly than others. I'll agree that these attributes are important. But, I'll say it again - There is no such thing as a natural-born model.

If you believe this, let me ask you a question. Do you believe there is such a thing as a natural-born surgeon? Do you think that the most famous surgeon in the medical profession was born to be a doctor? I guess when he was delivered the doctor who brought him into this world said, "Look!!! It's a surgeon!!" I don't think so.

For this man to become this famous surgeon, it took many years of education, internship, and watching other doctors before he was even considered to do actual surgery. I'm really glad he did, aren't you?

And, even after all these grueling years this doctor still was not guaranteed to become well-known in the medical industry.

The point I'm trying to make is that, modeling can be a rewarding profession but it does require some effort on your part.

The following are some of the attributes of successful models ..

Learning ability and intelligence
Self confidence
Willingness to travel and leave friends and family behind
Good organization skills
A healthy body and lots of get-up-and-go!
A model who is comfortable in setting goals and not afraid to go after them with a dogged determination
Resistance to peer pressure - Stay drug and alcohol free
Don't just read these attributes. Study them, learn them, and make them a part of your own personality traits. If you don't have them at first, pretend that you do.

Remember, you will become what you think and the way that you act. You're not lying when you say, "I am in the process of writing down my goals for modeling and on my way to becoming successful." You're just telling the truth in advance!!

3 Steps To Having An Old Fashioned Christmas Holiday

There are many Christmas traditions that are gradually being lost in today's high-tech, always-on-the-go world. But Christmas is the perfect time to slow things down and get back to basics to really enjoy the season. The following are three ways to have a traditional, old-fashioned Christmas.

1. Decorations

For many people, decorations are what make Christmas time special. The right decorations can set the mood for a traditional Christmas and let the whole family get involved in creating the Christmas spirit.

Start with an old-fashioned Christmas tree. Traditional decorations were all hand-made. Take a day early in December to get the whole family together to create the decorations such as stringed popcorn and chains made from colorful paper. Play Christmas music, serve eggnog and get everyone into the spirit.

Check your local thrift or antique shop for some old-fashioned decorations. Wax or blown-glass ornaments were commonplace in years past, and there are often some great examples to be found in thrift stores for next to nothing.

You can also look for antique tins with Christmas themes. These make great candy or fruit dishes.

2. Baking and Cooking

Baking and cooking come a close second to the Christmas tree for setting the mood for Christmas. Cookies, pies, and hot cider are all staples of an old-fashioned Christmas celebration.

The entire family can take part - even the non-bakers. They can help to decorate the sugar cookies or gingerbread men. Kids can help cut the cookie shapes before they're baked.

3. Christmas Day

There are plenty of Christmas day traditions that can help create old-fashioned fun. Find someone to play Santa Claus and deliver the presents for everyone in the family.

Make the gift exchange time special. Don't just tear into them en mass, give everyone a chance to open them separately. This gives everyone a better chance to show their appreciation, and people get to watch their reactions.

If you're lucky enough to have a white Christmas, take some time out of the day to go sledding or have a snowball fight. Top it off by serving hot cider or hot chocolate.

These family traditions can be passed on from generation to generation, with each one adding their own extras.

Fashion Handbags For Fashioable ladies
